Step 2: Teach students basic Chinese greetings and phrases, such as “ni hao,” “xiexie,” and “zaijian,” and demonstrate the proper etiquette for bowing and exchanging business cards.
Step 3: Provide students with scenarios in which they would need to use the Chinese language and etiquette, such as ordering food at a restaurant or bargaining at a market. Instruct them to practice these situations in pairs or small groups.
Observation of students during role-playing exercises, accuracy and fluency of Chinese language and etiquette, and participation and engagement during the lesson.
Title: Learning About Chinese Festivals in Beijing
Students will be able to identify and understand the cultural and historical significance of traditional Chinese festivals celebrated in Beijing, such as the Spring Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Dragon Boat Festival.
Step 1: Introduce the lesson by asking students to name some traditional Chinese festivals that they know of and discuss their significance.
Step 2: Show pictures and videos of traditional Chinese festivals celebrated in Beijing, and guide the class through a discussion of the customs, foods and traditions associated with each festival.
Step 3: Assign students to groups and provide each group with a different festival to research and prepare a presentation on. Encourage them to include pictures, videos, traditional foods, and customs associated with their assigned festival.
Accuracy and relevance of group presentations, level of understanding of the cultural and historical significance of traditional Chinese festivals, and participation and engagement during the lesson.
