As I stepped out of Taichung Railway Station, I was struck by the bustling energy of the city. It was my first time in Taiwan and I was excited to explore its cultural and natural beauty. I had heard a lot about its food, nightlife and friendly people, but little did I know that this trip would be a journey to remember.
The first thing I did was to visit the National Museum of Natural Science, which was a treat for the science nerd in me. The exhibits were interactive and fun, and the giant screen theatre was just mind-blowing. Next, I visited the National Taichung Theater, which was a masterpiece of modern architecture. The building looked like a giant vortex from the outside, but once I got inside, I was dazzled by the state-of-the-art theatre and concert halls. The acoustics were impeccable and the performances were just surreal.
After the cultural overdose, I decided to escape to the outdoors. I visited the Gaomei Wetlands, which were just breathtakingly beautiful. The sunset view was spectacular and the sound of the wind turbines was music to my ears. I also visited the Rainbow Village, which was a whimsical art project that turned a slum into a vibrant community. Every inch of the old village was painted with colourful murals and sculptures, which made it a perfect backdrop for photography.
As the night fell, I ventured into the Taichung Night Market, which was a feast for the senses. The smell of the street food was intoxicating, and the chatter of the locals was like music to my ears. I tried everything from stinky tofu to bubble tea, and everything was just delicious. The market was also a great place to shop for souvenirs, like jade figurines, silk scarves and traditional dresses. I also visited a few pubs and clubs, and was amazed by the diversity of the nightlife. From jazz bars to karaoke rooms, Taichung had something for everyone.
After a week in Taichung, I knew that this trip had changed me forever. I had learned to appreciate the beauty of nature, the richness of culture and the warmth of human connection. Taiwan had become my second home, and I knew that I would come back someday. As I boarded the train to Taipei, I felt a sense of nostalgia but also excitement for the adventures ahead. Taichung 1992 may be over, but the memories will last a lifetime.
