It all started when Jane met John in college. They were both in the same literature class. Jane admired how John would always speak his mind in class and express his thoughts eloquently. Soon enough, they started having coffee breaks together and discussing books and writing. They bonded over their shared passion for words and stories.
Before they knew it, they were dating. Jane adored how John would always surprise her with little things that she loved, like a bouquet of flowers or a book he knew she would enjoy. John appreciated how Jane would push him to try new things and support him in his writing endeavors. They traveled together, went on long walks in the park, and would have long conversations about everything and nothing. It was a love that felt like it would never end.
But like all good things, their love came to an end. As they graduated from college and started chasing after their careers, they started to drift apart. John moved to New York to pursue his dream of becoming a published author, while Jane stayed in their hometown to build her career as a journalist. They tried to make long-distance work, but soon found it draining and unfulfilling. They argued about the smallest things, and as time went on, they simply stopped talking.
It eventually reached a point where they both knew it was over. John came back to town to meet Jane and they had the dreaded talk. They both cried, said their goodbyes, and promised to always cherish the memories they made together.
Years passed, and both John and Jane found success in their respective fields. They both got married and had children, but they never forgot their time together. They would occasionally bump into each other at book fairs or literary events, and it would always bring back a flood of memories.
One day, John sent Jane an email and asked if she would be interested in co-authoring a book with him. It was a memoir of their time together, the love they shared, and the lessons they learned. Jane accepted and they spent months working on the book, reminiscing about their sweet beginnings and the bitter end.
The book was a success, and it allowed them both to heal from the wounds they had caused each other. It was a way to finally say goodbye to the love that had come and gone, but would always hold a special place in their hearts.
As they sat together at a book signing event, Jane looked at John and smiled. She knew that their love was no longer romantic, but it was still a love that had come and gone, as it goes. And for that, she was grateful.
